Detox and cleansing are something many of us have tried several times, perhaps through a special detox diet, a planned detox program with special supplements, or even through fasting. But natural detox is so much more.
Natural detox is a gentle way to support the body's own cleansing processes, boost energy, and find more well-being in everyday life.
It's about choosing small, positive changes that strengthen us and create a sense of lightness and harmony in both body, mind - and emotions. Yes, because we can also cleanse emotionally - it's almost one of the most important things we can do.
It's all connected; body, mind, and emotions.
What is natural detox?
Natural detox is about supporting the body's natural cleansing processes; including the liver, kidneys, lungs, skin, and lymphatic system to remove accumulated waste products and toxins.
The body is amazing at cleansing itself; it actually does so all the time. However, our modern lifestyle can easily overload these natural cleansing processes, leading to imbalance and the accumulation of waste products.
Signs that the body needs cleansing may include:
- Low energy levels: Perhaps you feel tired all the time, even after a good night's sleep.
- Digestive problems: Bloating, constipation, or diarrhea can indicate that your digestion is overloaded.
- Skin problems: Acne, dryness, or other skin issues can be a sign that the body is trying to eliminate toxins through the skin.
- Mental sluggishness: Difficulty concentrating or lack of focus.
We can support the body's natural cleansing through some simple good habits such as:
- Diet: Focus on fresh, natural (organic) foods.
- Exercise and movement: Exercises and activities that support blood circulation and the lymphatic system, as well as good yoga poses that stimulate the organs or work on meridian channels connected to the organs.
- Sleep and rest: Good deep sleep so the body can regenerate and work.
- Hydration and fluids: Drinking plenty of water and herbal tea.
Emotional cleansing
An important part of natural detox is actually working with our emotions. The body remembers everything, and emotions that are not processed, or that are suppressed or ignored, can manifest as blockages, tension, imbalances, or even damage and illness in the body.
There are many ways and techniques to work with emotions; in meditation, space is created for reflection and contemplation, in yin yoga, work is done on meridian channels and emotions linked to different physical areas of the body, in EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), emotions that are ready to be released are tapped away - all roads lead to Rome.
Your personal path to detox
When we talk about detox and cleansing, it's important to remember that we are all different - as with everything else in life. What works for me may not work for you - and vice versa.
The advice and recommendations you find in this blog post are general guidelines that you can adapt to your own body and unique needs.
If there are foods you cannot tolerate, it is important to avoid them and instead focus on what nourishes and strengthens you.
At the same time, it can be a good idea to reflect on whether there is anything you might be consuming too much of, such as coffee, alcohol, or sugar. If you know you have an addiction - for example, to sugar - a gradual reduction would be a good and effective step in your detox.
In this way, you help yourself create a more balanced everyday life, without it feeling like a major upheaval.
I have met people who became allergic to apples because she ate a kilo of apples a day.
We can also overeat healthy foods. I have also met many people who drink a ginger shot every morning. It might work - until one day we develop an allergy because the body sees it as an attack - or perhaps an abuse.
So everything in moderation - and everything in its time. Ginger, for example, is fantastic in autumn and winter when we want to boost our immune system and lung/large intestine health. It can be a good idea to eat according to the seasons and the advice in traditional Chinese medicine. You can read more in my blog post HERE.
Remember, a detox is about supporting your body, not about forcing it. Start with small, gentle steps, and listen to what feels right for you.
Good foods for detox
What we eat is the most important thing in natural detox. Some foods are particularly good at supporting the body's natural cleansing, including:
Lemon: Strengthens the liver and promotes digestion. In addition, the acid in lemon is converted into an alkaline residue, which helps create a more balanced pH value in the body.
Ginger and turmeric: Anti-inflammatory ingredients that boost blood circulation and help reduce inflammation in the body.
Garlic: Natural antibiotic that strengthens the immune system and helps the body fight harmful microorganisms.
Good raw cold-pressed oils: The body and intestines need lubrication to function optimally. Unheated oils like olive oil and flaxseed oil support healthy digestion.
Green leafy vegetables: Spinach, broccoli, and cabbage are rich in chlorophyll, which helps cleanse the blood and promote the body's detoxification.
Blueberries: Packed with antioxidants that protect cells from damage caused by free radicals.
Avocado: Rich in healthy fats and helps strengthen liver function and support nutrient absorption.
Herbs like parsley and coriander: Known to help excrete heavy metals and support healthy cleansing.
Celery: Helps maintain the body's fluid balance and supports kidney function. It also promotes the functions of the liver and gallbladder, contributing to natural cleansing.

Artichoke: Supports liver function by promoting bile production, which aids digestion and the body's natural cleansing.
Green tea: A natural source of antioxidants,
that helps protect the body from damage and supports the liver's detoxification processes.
Feel free to use some of the above foods as part of your diet plan if you wish to support the body's natural cleansing.
5 tips for a healthy and effective natural detox
1. Start the day with a glass of warm water
Drink plenty of water daily - about 2 liters if you weigh 60 kg and 2.5 liters if you weigh 75 kg.
Drinking warm water in the morning is a gentle and effective way to support your digestion and give your body a healthy start to the day:
- Stimulation of digestion: Lukewarm water can increase blood circulation to the gastrointestinal tract and gently support the digestive system in getting started.
- Helps bowel function: The gentle warmth from the water can stimulate the natural movements of the intestines and help keep digestion balanced.
- Calming start to the day: Lukewarm water is gentle on the stomach and provides a pleasant start to the day. You will be surprised how nice it is to start the day with a glass of warm water.
2. Eat fresh, natural foods
Choose foods with natural properties that promote detox. Focus on:
- Green leafy vegetables: Filled with chlorophyll, which helps cleanse the blood and strengthen the immune system.
- Ginger and turmeric: Both are anti-inflammatory and stimulate blood circulation.
- Blueberries and lemon: Rich in antioxidants that protect cells from free radicals.
- Avocado: Healthy fats that support the liver and promote cell renewal.
3. Exercise and breathing
Prioritize 20 minutes daily for yoga or other exercise. Combine movement with deep breathing to support the body's natural cleansing:
- Yoga: Yoga that focuses on twists and pressure, which stimulate the organs, one could almost call it detox-yoga.
- Walks in nature: Promotes blood circulation and oxygenation of cells. The fresh air, especially by the sea, helps neutralize free radicals that can cause damage in the body.
- Deep breaths: Support lung cleansing and boost your energy levels with good deep inhalations and exhalations through the nose.
4. Reduce intake of sugar, alcohol, and processed foods.
To give the body a break, it is important to minimize the intake of:
- Sugar: Easily creates inflammatory conditions in the body and disrupts blood sugar.
- Alcohol: Stresses the liver and reduces its ability to detoxify.
- Processed foods: Often contain a number of additives that can accumulate in the body.
5. Get good sleep and rest
The body needs good deep sleep and rest to regenerate and work.
To optimize your detox, it is recommended to:
- 7-9 hours of sleep: It is especially when we sleep that the body restores itself and eliminates waste products.
- Sleep in darkness - avoid light sources in the bedroom that can disturb your sleep and melatonin production.

Detox for Beginners – Getting Started
Is detox a new world for you? Start with small, manageable steps:
- Try making a detox smoothie: Blend spinach, avocado, apple, lemon, and ginger for a nutritious and energizing start to the day.
- Reduce coffee: You can try cutting out coffee for a single day a week, even if it might cause discomfort and headaches the next day. Another approach is to drink half cups, reducing your coffee intake throughout the day - and perhaps stopping coffee by 2 PM.
- Try detox tea: Try replacing afternoon coffee with a cup of tea made from nettle, dandelion, lemon balm, artichoke herb, or other good cleansing herbs to support detoxification.
- Plan a weekend detox: Take a whole weekend where you focus on natural foods, hydration, good walks, yoga, and plenty of rest.

With this plan, you can easily and effectively start a detox that supports the body's natural cleansing.
5 misconceptions about natural detox
Detox is a popular topic, but it is often surrounded by many myths and conflicting advice that can create more confusion than good. Below, I share some of the most common misconceptions about detox:
- Detox is only for weight loss: Detox is about health, not quick weight loss. A detox is about supporting the body's health and balance, not just losing weight. Many mistakenly believe that detox is a quick fix for weight problems, but the focus should be on creating internal balance and cleansing the body of accumulated waste products. Weight loss can be a side benefit, but not an end in itself.
- Detox requires fasting: You don't need to fast to detox. You can detox through a balanced diet. Fasting can undoubtedly do something, as it gives the body peace to cleanse and work, but it is rarely a good solution in itself. A healthy detox is about nourishing the body through clean and natural foods that support its functions.
- It requires expensive products and supplements: Many believe that an effective detox requires special supplements or following expensive juice programs, but this is not necessarily true. Some of the best detox foods, such as lemon, spinach, ginger, and green tea, can be bought in most supermarkets at reasonable prices. The most important thing is to choose natural ingredients and avoid unnecessary additives.
- Detox is complicated: A detox can and should be simple and does not need to involve complex programs. In fact, too many changes at once can be very overwhelming for the body. Small daily changes, such as drinking more water, eating (more) vegetables, and prioritizing sleep, can make a big difference. You don't need to overhaul your entire lifestyle to start detoxing. Start small.
- Detox is not for everyone: Everyone can benefit from thinking about detox, regardless of age, gender or lifestyle. It's about giving the body a break and supporting its natural processes. Especially if you feel tired, have digestive problems or simply want to boost your energy - then a detox can be a good way.
Why is natural detox important?
We live in a world where we are constantly exposed to environmental toxins, such as air pollution, pesticides and chemicals in food and water. Toxins that easily accumulate in the body and overload the organs responsible for the body's cleansing.
Natural detox is important because it:
Supports the liver: The liver is the body's primary detoxification organ, and it works hard to break down toxins.
Improves digestion: Healthy digestion is crucial for eliminating waste products. Natural foods like green vegetables and healthy fats can help with healthy digestion.
Reduces inflammation: Many of the toxins we are exposed to can cause inflammation in the body. A detox can reduce this risk and improve your general health.
Gives more energy: By reducing the burden on the body, energy is released that can be used for other things in your daily life. You generally just feel better.
Natural detox is not a cure, but a lifestyle. It's about supporting the body and creating balance in everyday life. By integrating these simple methods, you can give your body the care it needs and achieve more energy, better digestion and inner peace. There is also a lot of self-care and self-love in it, as you will notice that by taking care of yourself and your body, you also feel happier.
I hope you feel inspired to try some of these tips and find out what works best for you.
Lovingly
Isabelle
